Our silane-modified polymers are high quality binders for hybrid adhesives and sealants addressing woodworking applications. They allow you to develop products with a wide range of mechanical properties and without any need for hazard labelling. We offer silane-terminated binder systems (Methanol-release, Polymer ST series) and silane-modified polymers with lateral cross-linking groups (Ethanol-release, TEGOPAC® series).
Our extensive additive portfolio for water-based and reactive adhesives and sealants (PUs, SMPs, epoxides and acrylics) offers many possibilities to optimize formulation performance. The defoaming/deaeration of formulations, improved substrate wetting, or better dispersion of filler materials is also possible. The additives can also help to optimize production processes or application performance.
Many of today's modern adhesives and sealants are based on silane-modified polymers (known as SMPs). Formulations based on these polymers can offer attractive alternatives to more traditional polymers while still providing all the benefits of the more established polymers due to their excellent performance attributes including
Silane-modified polymers contain no isocyanates, can be formulated without using tin catalysts and without the loss of any methanol through evaporation. Our broad and unique portfolio provides you with a flexible base to create reactive systems for use in many different applications.
ANTIFOAMS:
The carefully selected and formulated base materials provide excellent foam control and maximum compatibility at the same time. The well balanced raw material base leads to a wide range of excellent defoamers, suitable for a multitude of industry applications. Our antifoams do not adversely affect the performance of dispersions and have long-term stability, providing enhanced efficiency even after storage of the formulated dispersions. Our antifoams permit a high efficiency of production processes due to the avoidance of foam.
Benefits of the TEGO® Antifoam product range
WETTING AGENT:
Wetting agents improve the wetting behavior of dispersions on substrates and diminish the defects caused by other additives at the same time. Wetting agents are very efficient even at low dosage rates. In order to cover the whole range of wetting applications in the dispersion market, we offer four lines of wetting agents.
For high performance applications (e.g. application of pressure sensitive adhesives on siliconized papers) our wetting agents, based on organomodified siloxanes, are perfectly suited to meet demanding requirements.
The Gemini Technology is characterized by very efficient wetting agents, which can act as such, even at lower concentrations. They can be considered as two-in-one additives providing a combined property profile of excellent wetting behavior and good defoaming characteristics.
Alcohol alkoxylates are preferably recommended for highly dynamic processes. This product class is characterized by a very fast migration to the surface and by low foaming, which is beneficial for demanding applications of dispersion used in quick processes. For standard applications, products based on sulfosuccinates are available.
Improvement of Wetting Behavior and Decrease of Surface Defects Alcohol alkoxylates are preferably recommended for highly dynamic processes. This product class is characterized by a very fast migration to the surface and by low foaming, which is beneficial for demanding applications of dispersion used in quick processes. For standard applications, products based on sulfosuccinates are available.
The improved wetting of low energy substrates can be guaranteed by the use of our organomodified siloxane technology which lowers the static surface tension efficiently. With our range of wetting agents we offer solutions for different application demands, ensuring outstanding lowering surface tension for fast running processes where the dynamic surface tension has to be lowered or for very low static surface tension to guarantee quick substrate wetting.
DISPERSING AGENT:
Dispersing agents are surface-active ingredients, which ease the incorporation of pigments and fillers into a liquid. Agglomerates are broken up by shearing whereby new surfaces are created. They are wetted by dispersing agents which stabilize the aggregates of pigments or fillers. Dispersing agents have an amphiphilic structure which combines the following requirements – Specific anchoring groups give them the ability of being strongly absorbed onto the particle surface.
As a second requirement the molecule must contain polymeric chains that give steric stabilization in the required system. Dispersing agents can provide ionic stabilization if they contain anionic or cationic structure elements. Low molecular surfactant structures with anionic groups are used in highlyfilled inorganic pigment or filler pastes due to strong viscosity reduction, but can be used for organic pigments as well. Amphiphilic structures with high molecular weight have to be used in higher concentrations calculated on pigment in comparison to those discussed above. They are always recommended for pastes with requirements for long-term stability. Especially for expensive organic pigments this structure principle is technically and economically beneficial. Even titanium dioxide as high density material can be stabilized without significant settlement for several months.
RHEOLOGY MODIFIER:
Thickeners are not only used to adjust the viscosity of an adhesive formulation, but also to influence the flow behavior of the adhesive which is important for the final application. For this purpose, we provide associative PUR thickeners, giving either Newtonian or pseudoplastic flow behavior. When the shear stress is stopped the viscosity of the formulation containing the pseudoplastic thickener returns to the starting value quickly, whereas the formulation containing the thixotropic thickener needs some time to recover.
In contrast to standard thickeners, our thickeners also operate at low pH values (<3). TEGO® Rheo 8600 is fully compliant with EU 10/2011 and can be applied on all kinds of acrylics and even for Vinyl-Acetate/Ethylene (VAE) Emulsions.
In acrylic dispersions TEGO® Rheo 8600 is
Fumed silica is used in paints and coatings, for example, to control the rheological properties or as an anti-settling agent and also to improve rustproofing. Thanks to special monomers, the surfaces of articles of daily use are no longer susceptible to alcohol-based cleaning materials. For example, the products from Evonik also provide optimum protection against environmental effects for newly renovated concrete surfaces.
High demands are placed on car paints and coating technology in terms of quality, durability, and environmental compatibility. Evonik offers low-solvent, methacrylate-based systems to suit the special requirements of its customers.
When used as coatings, polyamide powders protect metal surfaces and, as additives, they improve the properties of paints. With special treatment the powders form antimicrobial surfaces and thus help prevent infection, even combating multi-resistant germs.
Evonik coatings are also an optimum solution for food packaging. Food is protected reliably against external influences through a combination of outstanding adhesive properties with flexibility and surface hardness.
Methacrylate monomers from Evonik used in binders for automotive clear coat finishes provide high gloss, scratch resistance, and durability. Other specialty products used in dispersion paints for outdoor use improve adhesion on weathered substrates.
Even though many additives are often used only in small quantities they still improve the quality and performance characteristics of the coating. For example, glide and flow additives and substrate wetting additives create even flow properties and an ideal surface smoothness. Organofunctional silanes increase for example the adhesion of coatings and moreover enhance the corrosion protection of the varnishes.

Under the brand name TEGOSIL®, we supply homogeneous pastes, non-toxic and highly filled with fillers that significantly improve the thermal conductivity or flame retardancy of liquid silicone rubber applications.
In the covers for laminate rollers, the functional fillers ensure that as much heat as possible is transferred from the roller to the laminate and is not lost during the production process. And vehicle gaiters made of silicone rubber using our TEGOSIL® meet very stringent fire safety protection standards: If the material is ignited during an accident, it will burn without the formation of any smoke. So, in the case of an emergency, more time is available for people to exit the area of danger.
E-MOBILITY SOLUTIONS
TEGOSIL® has also become an indispensable component of e-mobility: For example, it improves the heat resistance of the seals in batteries. With the addition of our product, the heat resistance of silicone rubber rises from approximately 200°C to an impressive 300°C. This allows extremely compact construction methods which enable the space close to the hot engine to be put to optimal use. In power electronics too, silicones found in cars or in telephones and tablets must be heat resistant up to 150°C and able to withstand frequent temperature changes. TEGOSIL® products are also increasing durability. Additionally, our NANOPOX® and Polymer VS series additives are used in electronics, for example, when casting compounds are required to effectively conduct heat away from the processor, and these compounds are often formulated based on epoxies or polyurethanes.
